How do i care for mini roses?

I just planted miniature roses and am a novice at gardening. Do I need to to anything special to keep up with them?

How do i care for mini roses?
Just use an multi-symptom rose food that feeds and systemically keeps off insects. Miniature roses are easier in my opinion to grow than Tea roses, and are great accent or border plants due to good blooming and really unique colors. Good luck, I have had some of mine for over 20 years.
Reply:Mini roses are just like regular roses. If you provide them with lots of water and fertilize reguarly they will thrive. They do like good soil...like compost or rich organic soil.

The 3 most important factors are water, soil and fertilizer.

Be sure to use a good "Rose Food Fertilizer" ask for it at your nearest nursery.

If you live where temps get consistenly below 20degrees f. I would suggest covering them with some type of blanket. Otherwise just prune back and water 2-3 times per month during the winter months. They will come back.
Reply:From experience with 3 miniature roses in my yard in upstate NY I'd say you have to do very little. I used to hill them over winter but found that was unnecessary. I just trim off the dead wood in the Spring, fertilize them a little, and occasionally have to apply a systemic insecticide when the critters start chewing the leaves from the inside.

And, don't fertilize them late in the season to avoid promoting growth that will be killed off in the winter.
