How do I keep my bunch of roses alive longer?

My partner bought me a dozen beautiful roses for my anniversary. They have been sitting in a vase at my desk for 3 days (I used the flower-food sachet that the florist gave me) I am going to take them home with me today though and was wondering if anyone knew how I could keep them alive for as long as possible?

I always put a fizzy asprin in the water with my flowers, it keeps them alive for longer. Also, if there were any carnations in the bunch, throw them out because they'll kill all the others...

Reply:Every day replace the water with ice cold water - it refreshes them like you will not believe!
Reply:Roses are trickier to preserve than other flowers. Transport them back home with the stems wrapped in wet newspaper in a waterproof bag. It is essential to shorten the stems immediately when you get home by at least two inches with a sharp knife or secateurs. Cut at an angle. Put them in a bucket of tepid (not hot or cold as this would give them an additional shock) water up to their necks for an hour. Transfer in a vase which contains plenty of water and half an aspirin tablet after removing any leaves likely to be underwater. Display in a cool place away from heat, central heating or sunshine but well lit.


Top up water daily. Enjoy!

Reply:Put half of an aspirin into the water,and cut the bottom of the stems diagonally across.This will keep them fresher for much longer.

Reply:i am really sad 2 tel u zat flowers is a perishable good but u sure can try u're best 2 keep it as fresh n as long as u wish by iusing z following method:


1 put it in a vase of water but not 2 much so that it decays!!


2change z water each 2 days!


3 put some vitamins %26amp;minerals i z water of the plant


4 let z flowers get a little of suu rays but nt 2 much soo zat it dries up!


5 a flower is fragile so take great care of it %26amp;pay attention


6 don't let 2 many people touch z flowers..

Reply:first make sure you keep fresh water in them and go get more of the flower-food. Alos, try to keep them in a cool place. If you ever notice at the florist they have them in a fridge this is because they do better in cool air. Also, make sure you cut the bottoms of the roses at a slant. I always end up saving one of mine and getting that little green thing that they have around the ones that are sold as a single. Then I hang it upside down on the mirror of my truck. This actually makes it last twice to three times as long as the rest of them. I'm not saying hang them all upside down but, you could do one of them....
Reply:CONGRATULATIONS on you anniversary, usually when I get flowers, I put them in a vase of WARM water, and add a teaspoon of sugar. If you want, why don't you pick one of the roses and press it in a heavy book, that way it will last forever.
Reply:Asprin and or sugar in the water helps. ALso the cooler the roses stay the longer they last.

2. Change water every morning.


3. Add 2-3 tbsp. of sugar and aspirin into water.(every morning)

Reply:I find using lemonade instead of water works. I have managed to keep flowers for longer by doing this. Don't ask me how it works, it just does.
Reply:Crush the stems(bottom inch or so) and change the water regularly.Don`t put them too close to a heat source but if possible put them in as much natural light as possible.
Reply:An old florist's trick is to put them in lemonade. I suppose it's something to do with the dissolved gas - if so, fizzy water should do as well.

but you must replace the water every couple of days and trim the base of the stalk at the same time in a diagonal fashion.





Make sure the vase is near the window at all times too
Reply:Make sure you cut the bottom of the stems first...this is said to keep them for longer.
Reply:Add a little 7-up (canned drink) to the water and they will last longer, also why not keep a couple tie them together at the stem hang them upside down in a dark airing cupboard until they dry out, this way you can display them as dried roses, do this while they are fresh and they should keep a nice colour.
