Are your roses resilient to this wet weather? My Avatar is of my Gertrude Jekyll?

from last year and it had blooms in abundance...the same as this year. Good old fashioned roses you canae beat them for hardiness and glorious perfumes.

My good own root roses from Heirloom roses and my David Austins have done well during the wet weather. We practically experienced a monsoon season here in OK, but now we are finally drying out. I did have several roses like my minies and a few others develop a bad case of black spot. I've stopped the spot in it's tracks with the exception of my one and only Hybrid tea. It just doesn't want to get well and I'm thinking of pulling it up and replacing it with another DA. Anyhow, I'm with you. I prefer the old fashioned roses because they are more disease resistant and easier to care for. In my opinion, they not only perform better with big showy displays that are incredibly beautiful, but they tend to smell better as well. No more hybrid teas for me.
Reply:Usually i have lovely roses but this year their have been huge rose-buds but they turned brown and all i can think of is that he has to be too much water , the rain. Quite upsetting really. My garden looked absolutely fantastic and then the rain came and most of my lovely plants have been flattened and rotted to nothing. Have thousands of slugs around as well and they are eating whatever is left even though i used pellets and picked them off the plants everyday [ used salty water in a bottle to kill them with ] . So i am glad your roses are doing well maybe i should go for the old-fashioned type.:)))
Reply:yes i agree, i have 2 rose climbers in my back garden, and i have 4 rose bushes in my front garden, and they are all still flowering and doing great
Reply:my rose tree has blossomed just fine in this nasty weather. Don't know what type it is, they are red, but all my other plants have died early cos of the wind and rain.
