When should you plant roses?

I would like to plant some roses in my large back garden, climbing roses and large headed roses, can I plant them now or should it be Spring? Any more tips?

When should you plant roses?
its best to plant in spring time
Reply:Fall or spring. Most nurseries will have new stock in the spring, so you will have better selection. If you plant them in the fall, just don't cut them back too far, because you can lose up to a foot in the winter conditions.Wait until the first of March. Don't know where you live, but roses need a good amount of sun, this results in less fungal problems.
Reply:I planted mine 2 wks ago. Depends on where you are. Go to any site in your area for "horticultar" usually at a college
Reply:you can plant bare root roses now, as long as the ground is not to wet.
Reply:i planted a standard rose in July a few years back and every year i get over 40 large blooms on the 1 tree. make sure you don't plant roses in a place in your garden where they have been grown before because the soil wont be very good. Plus every year i bury banana skins at the base of the rose to put goodness back in the soil. Remove the flowers before they turn into rose hips so it don't take all the goodness from the plant and cut back every year between Nov and March.
Reply:For roses, it is best to plant in early spring time. Easy way to know when is the best time to plant is to go to the nursery. If the plant you want is widely available, it's also a good time to plant. Right now, all the spring blooming bulbs are in store, because fall is a good time to plant them.
