I want to plant some small border roses is it too late?

I want to edge my lawn with small roses, when is the best time and any advice will be good as I am new to this hobby of gardening.

I want to plant some small border roses is it too late?
No it's not too late, it is the perfect time of year to be planting container grown plants. The heat of summer is over (ha ha to that if you are in the UK) and the soil is still nice and warm. This will give the roses time to establish before the frosts.

If you are anywhere near a specialist rose nursery then you might be able to buy bare root plants which are less expensive. You plant these during the dormant season which is of course winter. You must firm them in well and check for wind rock every so often. Then in the spring they will start to establish nicely.
Reply:with the warm weather that we are still there would be no problem planting them at this time of year
Reply:November to March is the best time
Reply:no not yet but wont be long so be quick.
Reply:It's not too late to plant patio roses but they might not flower until next spring.
Reply:Make sure you have a bed with good dirt %26amp; drainage. Your roots need to be planted on a small hill of dirt so the roots hang over it. Then put dirt around it and don't cover up the knot at the top of the roots. This time of year you will need to baby them and when the summer is over cut back. But if you live in a warm area you may still have blooms late in fall. If so wait till then to cut back. Great book to get is "Ortho's" Rose book.
Reply:Depends on where you live. In California planting a tree is perfect at any time. Flower blooms around spring so, good luck.
Reply:It is not too late if they are garden center roses that are already in a pot of soil. Just make sure you loosen all the roots from around the root ball or the plant will eventually strangle itself with it's own roots. However, if you are planning on ordering your roses then they will either be very very young or if they are will be bare root in which case I would wait until Spring. An older more established rose can be planted or transplanted at any time, but a very young and newly established rose needs time to root before winter hits. A rose that has become dormant during the winter can be moved during the winter and suffer no shock. Roses can also be planted mid summer during extreme heat if the necessary TLC is taken. However, young or bare root roses need to wait until spring at least that is what David Austin says. They won't send out their roses until it is the perfect time and that is in the spring. You can get them when you want, but they won't guarentee them.
Reply:This is a perfect time to plant new roses, but it would be much cheaper for you to plant the roses bare root (without soil on them) bare root planting should be done in November.
