Haws or rose hips are the fruits of roses and the seeds inside. Here some photos:

You find the haws of wild roses like Rosa canina

( photos:http://images.google.de/images?q=Rosa+ca... ) in nature or those of cultivated roses sometimes in official gardens.

And here a site about breeding from seeds:

Reply:I am from California so I cut my roses down in Jan and take the shoots that are cut from the main plant and put them in a bucket of water and keep in my garage. About 70% of them root and then I pot after they show a good a root. In two years you will have a nice plant. I have been aware that you could use the seed but it is a lot of work. Call a good nursey and they will give you the secrets, but they as well cut shoots.
Reply:just take a rose and keep it in a plastic bag. next year just sprinkle whatever material is present in the plastic bag after crushing it.
