I have a rose bush outside of the house I just bought. Some of the roses bloom and then die off. There are quite a few dead ones on there now. How do I care for it properly? Thanks!
Whats the best way to remove the dead roses from my rose bush?
If you like to see your plant in bloom, the best time to trim is when your blossom begins to change Color or the petals begin to fall. I use rose trimmers, bur a sharp pair of scissors will do. be sure to trim back to the....y.... part of the stem. This way you will not harm future growth and new stems with buds. did you know that roses like very ripened chopped banana peels just carefully put in the root area with about 2' of soil over them ? Enjoy
Reply:On your bush look for the set of leaves that have a four-leafed branch, where your roses bloom.Use sharp scissors,or preferably secateurs.Cut on an angle, then roses will grow again at that cut. They take about six weeks. Also cut out dead growth. When watering wait until ground is dry, water well, and then leave until ground dries out.If you get Aphis(bugs) wash off with soapy water.
Reply:Ideally, you want to remove the rose just as it is opening, that way the plant doesn't waste resources on it. Any type of scissor will do nicely.
Some rose specific plant food probably would not hurt either.
Reply:Rose food and cut back with scissors.
