I am an amateur in gardenig. My lovely oldest sister died in 02/05/08 and she loved to plant roses.I want to honor her me
mory continuing one of her hobby.
Wich is the best time, season or week during the year to plant and trim the roses?
BEST TIME IS IN THE FALL,,,,THEN MAKE SURE YOU COVER THEM WITH STRAW FOR THE WINTER,IN THE SPRING YOU CAN REMOVE THE STRAW....
Reply:I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure the spirit of your sister will live on forever in the roses both of you have planted. That would make her happy. I live in California, so I prune in November. The time to plant and buy them here would be February/April. You should look at these sites, there is allot of information on what you want to learn about, plus photographs of roses. One in particular, a true, true Black Rose is so beautiful. Look at that on," Helpfind.com" Then you should go to , "American Rose Society" and " Westerlay Rose". That is some of them. I wish you well, Byee
Reply:I think it matters where you live. When I lived in the north, especially when planting bareroots, I planted in March (or when the ground was thawed), and trimmed then as well. Less transplant shock. But in the south, where the seasons aren't as clearly defined (and I don't tend to plant bareroots), it matters less. Just avoid really hot times, because the plant is already under stress.
Reply:i prune in october the best time to plant is end of may.come july august you should have beautyful roses you can clip them and put them in a vase and put them in your home and more will grow.
